hiaroye is a historic town and coastal suburb of Dakar, Senegal, located in the Pikine Department between Pikine and Rufisque. It is well-known for the 1944 "Camp de Thiaroye" massacre, where French colonial troops fired on West African soldiers, now a national cemetery and memorial site.
Key Aspects of Thiaroye:

Thiaroye Arrondissement: This administrative division includes five main communes: Diack Sao, Diamaguène Sicap M'Bao, M'Bao, Thiaroye sur Mer, and Thiaroye-Gare.
Historical Significance: The 1944 Thiaroye massacre saw French forces attack African soldiers (Tirailleurs Sénégalais) who were demanding owed pay after fighting in World War II.
Modern Day: Today, the area includes the Thiaroye military cemetery (National Cemetery), the Lycée de Thiaroye, and the Centre hospitalier national de Pikine.
The area is heavily urbanized, featuring a mixture of residential areas, a fishing community in Thiaroye-sur-Mer, and commercial zones near the railway.
